Incubating Powerful Ideas to Action

Aspen Institute | June 19-21, 2018

The Aspen Ideas Incubator is a curated, action-oriented ideas lab. Each year, the Incubator gathers a small group of about 30 leading experts, policymakers, practitioners, and private sector decision-makers to address key issues in global and community health at the last mile. Over the course of two days, the Incubator group participates in moderated dialogues and curated workshop sessions to incubate 3 powerful new ideas to bring healthcare to the hardest to reach communities in the US and across the globe, and commits to actions for the year ahead.

The Aspen Global Innovators Group launched a global Call for Ideas to select the ideas to be workshopped at the 2018 Aspen Ideas Incubator. Meet the 2018 Aspen Ideas Innovators, who share a deep commitment to serving communities at the last mile and whose ideas hold potential for significant impact at scale:

  • The Community Health Impact Coalition, building a collaborative effort to drive systemic change in community health
  • The University of Global Health Equity, creating a model for equitable access to quality education
  • UBS Optimus Foundation, developing innovative finance mechanisms for global health

These Innovators will be joined by an expert community of implementers, partners, field experts and others eager to drive these ideas to action, and bring forward new projects and learnings to the global Spotlight Health community.

Undaunted: Stories from the Front Line

Hotel Jerome Ballroom | Friday, June 22 | 6:00pm MT

Much has been made about the power of data in our information age. It can be used to both empower and manipulate us like never before. It can shed light on some of the most daunting problems we face, but also obscure some of the most important stories that point us toward solutions. In this hour of fast-paced, sensory-rich storytelling, ten trailblazing development leaders and New Voices Fellows from the Global South will share frontline stories highlighting one piece of data that changed everything in their journeys towards global health and illuminate why it should matter to each and every one of us.

Immediately preceding Undaunted will be a special book launch of Development as Dignity, edited by Dapo Oyewole, Andrew Quinn, and Holly Kearl. The book launch will take place in the Hotel Jerome Antler Bar at 5:00pm MT.
