By 2050, climate change will push at least 158 million additional women and girls into poverty and lead to 236 million more women into hunger. The climate crisis fuels escalating conflict and forced migration, in a context of exclusionary, anti-rights political rhetoric targeting women, refugees, and other marginalized groups.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In many regions, women bear a disproportionate responsibility for securing food, water, and fuel. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/digitallibrary.un.org\/record\/3956348\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Agriculture<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the most important employment sector for women in low- and lower-middle income countries. During periods of drought and erratic rainfall, women work harder to secure income and resources for their families as the agricultural workers and primary procurers. This puts added pressure on girls, who often have to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/womendeliver.org\/investment\/invest-women-tackle-climate-change-conserve-environment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">leave school<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to help their mothers manage the increased burden.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Climate change is a \u201cthreat multiplier,\u201d meaning it escalates social, political, and economic tensions in fragile and conflict-affected settings. With this increasing conflict across the world, women and girls face heightened vulnerabilities from human trafficking to all forms of gender-based violence.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Join us for a reception with leaders from the Aspen Global Innovators Group in partnership with the WHO Foundation and Alight.
