Attica lost her mom to addiction and her father was stuck in the cycle of incarceration. She used those experiences during her time serving as the first Black woman in the Kentucky state legislature in nearly 20 years to spearhead policies focusing on Black maternal health, eliminate the tax on menstrual hygiene products and baby products, providing free menstrual hygiene products to incarcerated women, creative art therapies, and Medicaid coverage for lactation support services, breastfeeding equipment, and doula services.
