A graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2007), she worked in pediatrics, HIV education (HEAIDS), and medical media (Al Jazeera). She led reproductive justice work, chaired Global Doctors for Choice (2017), and served as Commissioner for Gender Equality (2019). Appointed UN Special Rapporteur in July 2020\u2014the first woman and African in the role\u2014she also joined the International Partnership for Microbicides board in 2021 and serves as Distinguished Lecturer at Georgetown. Known as \u201cDr T,\u201d she authored Dr.\u202fT: A Guide to Sexual Health and Pleasure (2021) and co-leads Sentebale, a mental health app for youth in Africa living with HIV.
