Women of the Year: Jennie Joseph

Time Magazine | March 17, 2022

2019 Healthy Communities Fellow Jennie Joseph has been named one of the 12 Times Women of the Year.

“Wow! What an extremely busy and exciting week. So much to process and digest,  especially in a time of such turmoil and unstability. I am quite literally lost for words but I give thanks everyday that our prayers are being heard and we are moving in the right direction. I’ve had an overwhelming amount of well wishes and congratulations and would like to thank you all for all the support and beautiful words of encouragement. As you know, Commonsense Childbirth works as a collective with many moving parts, from the National Perinatal Task Force to the Commonsense Childbirth School of Midwifery, and I would like to share this honour with my sister Carol Collier who works tirelessly by my side and all my fellow colleagues at Commonsense Childbirth Inc. The work continues but it was nice to take a moment and reflect on what we have achieved so far. ”

Jennie is a well respected health advocate for women and newborn babies. A British-trained midwife, Jennie has become one of the world’s most respected midwives and authorities on women’s health: healthy pregnancies, healthy deliveries and healthy babies.

Jennie is the founder and executive director of Commonsense Childbirth Inc. but more importantly she is  the creator of The JJ Way®, a common-sense approach designed for women and children. She moved to the United States in 1989 and began a journey that has culminated in the formation of an innovative maternal child healthcare system, markedly improving birth outcomes for thousands of women and children.
