Mohamed grew up in rural Sierra Leone and earned money to complete his high school education by selling candy, roast meat and kerosene by the side of the road. He was one of the first students to graduate from Sierra Leone’s new national medical school. Upon graduation, he founded Wellbody Alliance in Kono district, a clinic offering healthcare to the poor in a region heavily affected by the country’s civil war. From 2021 to 2023, Dr. Barrie was the Executive Director for Partners In Health-Sierra Leone. In addition to his training as a medical doctor, Dr. Barrie holds a Master of Medical Science in Global Health Delivery from Harvard Medical School and a PhD in Global Health from the University of California, San Francisco. He conducts social epidemiology research in Sierra Leone.
