New Voices Fellowship

Catalyzing locally-rooted, globally networked leaders to become visible, effective advocates to champion more equitable development systems.

The New Voices Fellowship at the Aspen Global Innovators Group uses communications, advocacy, and storytelling training to equip experts and advocates from countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean with skills to change public opinion and shift public policy.

By providing Fellows the skills to communicate and amplify their messages, the program shifts power to those with proximity to the communities they serve. Fellows combine the support of trained advocacy mentors with their increased recognition to advocate for policy change at local, national and global levels.

THIS FELLOWSHIP WILL

Motivate You!

Everyone is motivated in different ways. What drives you? And what sustains that commitment? Finding your motivation – and staying motivated – is key to this Fellowship. We hope this Fellowship can engage your sense of purpose, reflect your core values and connect with a new community of friends and allies.

Strecth You!

Enter the year with an open mind. Prepare yourself to be challenged, to learn, and to listen. To us, stretching means pushing yourself beyond your comfort zone to try something new. You’ll surprise yourself by how much more you can accomplish if you think about how best to leverage your time and talents.

IMPACT OF THE FELLOWSHIP

Over the past 10 years, the New Voices Fellowship has redefined leadership and influence in global development, empowering 187 extraordinary leaders from 47 countries—more than half of them women—to drive meaningful change in their communities and across the world.

Through intensive training in strategic communications, advocacy, and personalized mentorship, Fellows have emerged as powerful voices on the global stage. The program has catalyzed significant outcomes:

  • $48 million raised for Fellows' organizations, amplifying their capacity to create lasting impact

  • 12.98 million people directly reached, with an indirect reach of 358 million, demonstrating wide-scale resonance of their work

  • 2,168 media mentions and an astonishing 94,904 op-eds published, showcasing their thought leadership and influence

  • Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa lead as top countries represented, highlighting the Fellowship’s deep engagement across Africa

New Voices Fellows have become influential advocates, winning policy changes, advancing their careers, and earning prestigious recognitions. Data shows their public visibility more than doubles two years post-Fellowship compared to peers, underscoring the enduring value of the program’s support and networks—including access to the Aspen Institute's global platform.

In just a decade, the New Voices Fellowship has not only elevated individual leaders but also strengthened movements, reshaped narratives, and redefined who gets heard in global development.

Having been a part of other, highly prominent international fellowships, I am even more certain that NVF does not have a parallel in terms of efficacy in design of modules, authenticity of staff, quality of mentors and the global community it is creating.
