Senior New Voices and 2025 Advanced Advocacy Fellow André Ndayambaje, who is a midwife and health services coordinator, draws from his rural upbringing and memories of his sisters bearing shame in silence in this op-ed.
His study with the Rwanda Association of Midwives shows that only approximately 4.2% of rural girls have easy access to sanitary products, compared to 88.4% in urban areas. He calls for ending menstrual stigma among Rwandan schoolgirls.
