Nelson Mandela Prize Recipient Kennedy Odede Shares His Experience in the New York Times

2013 New Voices Senior Fellow Kennedy Odede and the organization he founded, Shining Hope for Communities in Nairobi (SHOFCO), were recently featured in a New York Times article entitled “Kenya Is Desperate to Pay Off Staggering Debt. Its Workers Are Paying the Price.”

The article anecdotally explores the effects of the new Kenyan government fees as well business and excise taxes levied to pay off its foreign debt on small businesses and non-profits like SHOFCO. 

Kennedy Odede was recently selected as a 2025 recipient of the United Nations Nelson Mandela Prize.
