Professor Olanike Adeyemo is a COMSTECH Distinguished scholar and represents sub-Saharan Africa on the 6th Steering Committee of the World Food Security’s High-Level Panel of Experts (HLPE) on Food Security and Nutrition (2021-2023). In 2022, she was invited to serve on the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) of the United Nations Food Systems Coordination Hub. She is the Pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research, Innovation and Strategic Partnerships), University of Ibadan, Ibadan (2017-2021). Professor Adeyemo also heads the Oyo State COVID-19 Decontamination and Containment team of the Oyo State COVID-19 Taskforce and is the Chairperson, Digital Literacy Implementation Committee (DLIC) for Southwest, Nigeria (2021-date). Among other preferments, Professor Adeyemo is an expert on the Joint FAO/WHO Expert Committee on food additives, contaminants, natural toxins, and residues of Veterinary drugs (2011-2026) and a Council member of International Professional Recognition Committee (IPRC) for Research Management, South Africa. She was recently (2022) invited by the British Council to join the Steering Committee of the Going Global Partners’ Group as an International representative.
As a researcher, she pioneered scholarship in “One Health” in Nigeria. This is an innovative and transdisciplinary research approach that cuts across traditional boundaries and paradigms to create novel, conceptual, methodological, and translational innovation at the environment-livestock-wildlife-human interface with significant policy implication for Nigeria, the African Continent and the rest of the world. Her current project titled “”Improving Biosecurity: A Science-based Approach to Manage Fish Disease Risks and Increase the Socio-economic Contribution of the Nigerian Catfish and Tilapia Industries”” being conducted in collaboration with colleagues at Mississippi State University, USA and Worldfish, Malaysia is facilitated by a USAID grant and aims to improve Nigerian aquatic animal production biosecurity and health management. E-Aquahealth platform, an output of the project has been copyrighted. She also has a patent and 135 publications.
Professor Olanike Adeyemo is renowned internationally; she is an elected Fellow of Academies of Science(s), including Nigerian Academy of Science, African Academy of Sciences, The World Academy of Sciences and International Science Council.
