Dr. Stellah Bosire is a Medical Doctor, Lawyer, Researcher, Global Health Practitioner and the Founding Executive Director of The Africa Center for Health Systems and Gender Justice, an organisation. The Center is an African women-led organisation dedicated to transforming health outcomes by addressing social determinants of health that result in gender-based disparities through systemic change driven by advocacy, research, and philanthropy. The Center engages policymakers to implement gender-responsive policies, generates data to highlight and address gender inequities, and directs resources to initiatives that promote health equity. Its mission is to build resilient, inclusive, and just health systems that serve marginalised and underserved populations, ensuring a healthier and more equitable Africa.

Stellah’s work is dedicated to advancing health equity, gender justice, and the strengthening of health systems, with a particular focus on women, girls, and structurally marginalised populations. She addresses systemic barriers to healthcare access and quality, recognizing the interconnected nature of health disparities and social injustices. Stellah has extensive experience working with governments, philanthropy, civil society, and grassroots networks.

She is currently the Chairperson for Amnesty International Kenya and a Board member of the CIVICUS Alliance. Her previous positions include Co-Executive Director of the East Africa Sexual Health and Rights Initiative, CEO of the Kenya Medical Association, and Vice-Chair of the HIV/AIDS Tribunal of Kenya. She also served as a Board member of Funders Concerned About AIDS (FCAA) and as an Advisory Board member for Racism in Global Health. Her exceptional contributions have earned her numerous accolades, including being named one of Kenya’s 40 Under 40 most influential women, the Accountability International Award in 2019, and the Commonwealth Queen of England’s Point of Light Award in 2020. In 2021, she was recognized as one of the most influential health practitioners in Kenya.

Dr. Stellah holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery, a Master’s in Global Health Policy, a Master’s in Business Administration – Healthcare Management, and a Bachelor of Law.
