Tlaleng Mofokeng is a South African physician and the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, campaigning for universal health access, HIV care, and adolescent well-being. A graduate of the University of KwaZulu-Natal (2007), she worked in pediatrics, HIV education (HEAIDS), and medical media (Al Jazeera). She led reproductive justice work, chaired Global Doctors for Choice (2017), and served as Commissioner for Gender Equality (2019). Appointed UN Special Rapporteur in July 2020—the first woman and African in the role—she also joined the International Partnership for Microbicides board in 2021 and serves as Distinguished Lecturer at Georgetown. Known as “Dr T,” she authored Dr. T: A Guide to Sexual Health and Pleasure (2021) and co-leads Sentebale, a mental health app for youth in Africa living with HIV. She advocates via the UN Gender & Health Hub and spoke out against arms sales to Israel in 2024.
